The free tier is real, though ads are frequent and the AI Coach, plays-like, club recommendations, and 3D green maps are all Premium.

At $99.99 a year, 18Birdies is the most expensive Premium tier on this list. What you get for it is genuinely rich (Strackaline 3D green maps, Strokes Gained scoring, AI swing analysis, Live Coach). Whether it's worth far more than Golf Pad Premium depends on how much you value social and coaching layers vs. pure on-course GPS features.

Best 3D flyovers. Cinematic hole previews and a solid Watch experience, at a significantly higher premium price than Golf Pad.

Golfshot's 3D flyovers are the best-rendered in the category. Its Auto Shot Tracking on Apple Watch (which uses on-watch machine learning to detect swings) is a real strength on the free tier. But most of the rest of the "smart" experience (Caddie 2.0 club recommendations, real-time distances to hazards and targets, plays-like distance, advanced scoring games, full wrist-based Watch play) sits behind Pro.

Best course library and offline play. The traveler's app. Biggest library, works offline, clean UI.

Hole19 has the biggest course library on this list and one of the cleanest UIs in golf. Its offline mode is genuinely useful if you travel to places with spotty cell coverage. The free tier is usable, the map view is minimal in a good way, and Premium at $69.99/year is on the cheaper side of the competitive pack.

The reason it lands at #5 is not quality, it's ceiling. Hole19 doesn't have hardware tracking, its watch story is limited to yardages, and its shot-tracking depth requires Premium. It's a well-made app; it's just less ambitious than the four above it.
