Free Golf Tournament Software Compared (2026)

Organizer guide

What each tournament platform costs, what the free version includes, and which one fits a league, club event, charity outing or buddies trip.

Quick Answer

Golf Pad Events is free for unlimited single-day golf tournaments with up to 100 golfers, including online registration, automatic tee times, live scoring in the free Golf Pad app or a browser, live leaderboards and automatic payouts. Pro ($499 a year) adds leagues, multi-day events, flights and online entry fees. Squabbit is a free scoring app, but events are set up and run entirely in the phone app. GolfStatus has no upfront cost but charges transaction fees, and Golf Genius is built for clubs, starting at $1,425 a year.

Running a golf tournament used to mean spreadsheets, paper scorecards and an hour of math in the clubhouse before anyone got paid out. Tournament software now handles registration, tee times, live scoring and results, and several platforms offer a free plan.

"Free" covers very different pricing models. Some tools are free up to a field size, some are free but charge a fee on every payment, and some are free only for certain organizations. This guide compares five options on cost, limits and features. Pricing was taken from each company's own website or App Store listing on October 8, 2026.

1. Golf Pad Events: Best Free All-in-One Option

Golf Pad Events covers the full event, from sign-up to final results. The free plan includes unlimited single-day events with up to 100 golfers each, a customizable event page with the schedule, standings and payouts, online registration, automatic tee-time scheduling with drag-and-drop changes, and emails to golfers sent from the event.

On the day, golfers keep score in the free Golf Pad app, either individually or with one scorer per group, and the live leaderboard updates as they play, including a big-screen view for the clubhouse. Golfers who don't want the app can score in a browser, and paper scorecards can be entered afterward. Winners and payouts are calculated from the scores, and the event page stays up as a permanent record.

Supported formats include stroke play, Stableford, Modified Stableford, Best Ball, Scramble, Chapman and Alternate Shot, gross or net. The free plan allows two competitions and unlimited side games per event. More than 6,000 tournaments have been run on the platform.

Golf Pad Events Pro costs $499 a year ($41.58 a month billed annually) or $99 a month. It adds multi-day tournaments of up to four rounds, leagues across a season, automatic flights, unlimited field size, entry fees collected through the organizer's own PayPal account, printed scorecards, schedules and cart signs with QR codes for live scoring, sponsor placement, and priority support with a video setup session.

Coming soon: Golf Pad Events Agent lets organizers run events by asking an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude to set up registration, arrange tee times, check standings and send emails. It is in early access and works with the free plan.

Best for

  • club events, golf groups and societies, corporate and charity outings up to 100 golfers (free), leagues and championships (Pro)

Limits

  • leagues, multi-day events and online entry fees require Pro; no donation or fundraising tools
Free for unlimited single-day events up to 100 golfers. No app required to play.

2. Squabbit: A Scoring App, Not an Event Platform

Squabbit is a free iPhone and Android scoring app, sold in the App Store by an individual developer, with optional in-app tips. It is built around the phone: events are created, managed and scored inside the app, and its App Store listing does not describe a browser-based organizer console, automatic tee-time scheduling, emailing the field or a scheduled setup session. It works well when a small group just needs a shared scorecard and leaderboard, but organizers running a registered event with a full field, tee times and golfers who don't use the app will need to handle much of that outside Squabbit.

Best for

  • casual buddies trips and small groups that only need a shared scorecard

Limits

  • app-only setup and management; no organizer console, tee-time scheduling or field emails described; individual developer rather than a support team

3. GolfStatus: Built for Charity Fundraisers

GolfStatus focuses on fundraising events. It has no upfront, subscription or per-user cost and earns revenue from a transaction fee on payments processed through its tournament websites, which organizers can ask registrants to cover. Events that don't process payments through GolfStatus pay $299 per event for live scoring. Optional add-ons include invoicing and discount codes ($199 per event) and sponsorship products such as pin flags and hole-in-one contests.

Best for

  • nonprofit and charity tournaments that sell registrations and sponsorships online

Limits

  • costs depend on payment volume and add-ons; live scoring only is $299 per event

4. Golf Genius: Full-Service Software for Clubs

Golf Genius Tournament Management is designed for private clubs, public courses and resorts. Its pricing page lists the Club plan at $1,425 a year plus a $200 onboarding fee and Club Premium at $4,275 a year plus a $500 onboarding fee, for US facilities up to 36 holes. One-time events, leagues and larger facilities are priced on request.

Best for

  • golf professionals running a full club calendar

Limits

  • no free plan; annual subscription plus onboarding fee

5. Unknown Golf: Club Events With Betting Pools

Unknown Golf combines a player app with an event platform for clubs and groups. Organizer features listed on its website include a configurable leaderboard, TV leaderboards for the clubhouse, printed cart signs, scorecards and tee sheets, personalized day-of-event messages with QR codes, season-long standings, simulator score support, and in-app registration payments. It also manages Calcutta auctions and pari-mutuel pools, with live odds and payout summaries.

Unknown Golf does not publish organizer pricing; clubs and groups request a custom quote. The player app is free, with an optional Unknown+ membership listed in the App Store at $49.99 a year or $9.99 a month.

Best for

  • clubs and member groups that run Calcuttas, betting pools and recurring games

Limits

  • no published price or free plan for organizers; pricing requires a sales conversation

What to Look For in Free Tournament Software

  • Field size: check the player limit on the free plan before inviting the field.
  • Scoring without an app: not every golfer will download an app. Browser or paper scoring keeps the field complete.
  • Formats: confirm the platform supports your format (Scramble, Best Ball, Stableford, Chapman) and gross or net scoring.
  • Results and payouts: automatic winners and payouts save the most time after the round.
  • How the company makes money: a subscription, a per-transaction fee and a per-event fee lead to very different costs as an event grows.
